One for The Money
82The One for the Money Movie
Katherine Heigl stars as Stephanie Plum, in the One for The Money movie, based on first book in a series of Stephanie Plum novels by best selling author Janet Evanovich. Joe Morelli is played by Jason O'Mara, and Ranger by Daniel Sunjata.
Out of work and just divorced, Stephanie Plum, played by Katherine Heigl, needs a job. Her car has just been repossessed and in desperation, she turns to her cousin Vinnie, who runs a bail bond business, for work. Quicker than you can say "destroy that car" Stephanie becomes an unlikely but persevering bounty hunter. And so, the Stephanie Plum movie launches a franchise.
Stephanie Plum's first big assignment is Joe Morelli. He has skipped his bond and Stephanie has to bring him in- the only problem is she will need more than pepper spray and handcuffs to tame this former romantic interest, who was a vice cop and is now chared with shooting an unarmed man.

Stephanie Plum Movie Looking for a Few Bad Men
Joe Morelli and Ranger are both, in Stephanie Plum's view, to die for. Fans of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series will have to make their own minds up about how closely the movie version matches their own vision. This movie is loosely based on the first book of the series, also named One for The Money, so Morelli gets the more central and leading role in this film.
Jason O'Mara, who plays Morelli was born in Dublin Ireland, and is best known for television roles on BBC and the London theater scene. American audiences may recognize him for appearances on Grey's Anatomy and The Closer. This is his first feature film in a starring role.
Ranger is played by Daniel Sunjata. Daniel was nominated for a Tony as best actor in a role he played on Broadway in Take Me Out. Born in Evanston, Illinois he also has had roles on Grey's Anatomy and on the TV series Rescue Me. Recent Feature Movies include The Devil Wears Prada, and The Dark Knight Rises also out in 2012.
Stephanie Plum Movie
Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum
Katherine Heigel has the lead role in the movie One for the Money, playing bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. Heigl became a celebrity at age nine, making a commercial for a breakfast cereal. Interestingly, like her two male co stars, Katherine Heigl has appeared on Grey's anatomy, where she played Izzy. That role won her an Emmy. The One for the Money movie is her most successful feature film role, to date, earning her over 15 million dollars. Heigl also produces it.
Many readers of the Janet Evanovich Plum series had their own picks for who they would like to see play Stephanie Plum, but fans who meet her for the first time in the One for the Money movie, Katherine Heigl will be the Plum that comes to mind. Many expect the One for the Money movie franchise to produce a series of highly successful sequels (Janet Evanovich already has 18 books in the Stephanie Plum series and she writes a new one every year). One wonders whether the Stephanie Plum movie based on Explosive 18 will have a cast in their 50's. A lot is riding on how successful the movie is at the box office.
One for the Money Supporting Cast Includes Debbie Reynolds
The ensemble of supporting cast in the Evanovich series leaves some "plum" roles for supporting cast members in One for the Money. Debbie Reynolds steals the scenes she is in, as Gramma Mazur, as the brash pistol packing Plum family elder. Another fun role in the One for the Money movie, Stephanie Plum's sidekick Lula, is played by Sherri Shepherd.

The One for the Money Movie: Comments are WelcomeLoading...
I agree Katherine Heigel as STEPHANIE PLUM is crazy. A real let down for fans of the series.
cmon have fun i listen to janets audio books at work. i m excited enjoy!
HORRIBLE CASTING! I have been hooked on this serious for years and I have thought that a tv series or movie series would be amazing for a long time.... but I don't even think I am going to watch the movie, I think it will ruin it for me! Katherine Heigl doesn't have the attitude, spunk or disdain that Stephanie has in the books. Lula isn't even close to ex-hooker, full of life and personality that I imagined. Neither Ranger nor Morelli are making my panties melt! So disappointing :(
Just got home from seeing the movie. It was terrible. She did not pull off Stephanie Plum. It felt rushed, big chunks of information were left out....I am highly disappointed.
Just watched with my wife - we're fans of all the books, and they're fun. The movie conveyed the nuance or the books fairly decently. The worst-cast part in our collective opinion was Grandma Mazur - Deb Reynolds is (still) too pretty to play the crazy old bat we took from the books. Fun stuff - this ain't Shake-a-Spear, people!
I agree the casting crew should of read the books or at least three to get the real feel for the characters. I thought KH did a good job of Stephanie, Morelli was fair but Ranger was way off. Didn't move, dress, talk or have the body Ranger has. The story wasn't bad since it had to be cut down to 1hr 45min. I'd love for them try again, make more but do their homework. Keep KH but replace Morelli and Ranger (they are good actors, this is just not right for them). Grandma and Lulu did not have a big enough part to really get their characters. With the right directing, they would be great. I blame this less on the cast and more on the casting and director. This is a spicy group fro NJ not The Desperate Housewives!
I could not go see the movie as the group (who play Steph, Lulu, Ranger, Morelli) in my mind when I read the books are: more funny, sexier, better looking then any of these people playing the parts could ever be. I thnk I will just keep reading and enjoying the books.
Saw this movie and have to say it is one of the worst I have seen. Save your money.Very little humor and a very weak story line.
casting was so wrong!!! men should have been TaLLER than stephanie plum.
megan fox would make good stephanie
the rock and scott patterson would be pefect size for ranger and morelli
vinny should be older
clois leachman or gena rowland for granma
melanie lynsky for best friend
did anyone in casting read the books???
they are supposed to be funny!
loretta devine for lulu
This movie was a HUGE disappointment. I agree that all characters are completely played by the wrong people and they don't stick to their character traits. What is sad is that in an interview with Katherine, she claimed to have read the book. It didn't show. The reason Lula is more accurate than the others is because her portrayed is a huge fan of all the books.
Fran Drescer should have played Stephanie!!!
Love Stephanie Plum books. HORRIBLE CASTING. Joe Morelli was the WORST!!!! HE isn't hot and doesn't look italian. DID Casting person read any of the books????
Doesn't seem so. If you are going to do more movies of Stephanie Plum, you should get a new Casting Person who actually know the characters in the book!!! WHAT A DISAPPONTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Casting is terrible. At least read the book and pay attention to the characters when casting. None of the cast match their ethic descent in the movie except Lula, but her shape doesn't fit the character's description. Ranger is suppose to Cuban and the one playing Morelli cannot even hide his Irish accent. Horrible casting. A real injustice to Janet Evanovich fans.
